The Story

"Desert meets forest — cactus and walnut, color and grain."

This bowl starts with an unconventional combination: a ripped piece of walnut and sections of dried cholla cactus skeleton. Cholla is a desert cactus native to the American Southwest, and its latticed skeleton is extraordinary on its own — combined with walnut and resin, it creates something truly unlike anything else.

I poured blue resin on one side and red on the other, then let them flow toward each other naturally. The colors mix on their own terms, creating a gradient that runs red through purple to blue — no two bowls will ever look quite the same.

Once fully cured, the blank goes back on the lathe and is turned down to its final bowl form. The way the cholla lattice and the color shifts appear through the resin changes completely depending on where you stand and how the light hits it. Hand-turned and finished in my home shop in California.
